Kiril Bahcevandziev was born in Skopje, Republic of North Macedonia (former Yugoslavia). He finished school in his hometown and bachelor's in agriculture, with a diploma in Agricultural Engineering, Faculty of Agriculture at Cyril & Methodius University. He did the teaching and practical specialization part of the Master's in Vegetable and Flower Production in greenhouses, with a specialization thesis, “Male sterility systems and their uses in Plant Breeding”, and a master’s degree entitled “Genetic parthenocarpy in pepper and eggplant” at the International Center for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies at the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Chania (M.A.I.Ch.), island of Crete, Greece. He holds a PhD (2003) in Agricultural Engineering (Instituto Superior de Agronomia, University of Lisbon) with the topic: Characterization of resistance to downy mildew (Peronospora parasitica (Pers. ex. Fr.) Fr.) in the cotyledonary state in Brassica oleracea.
He is currently an Assistant Professor at the Escola Superior Agrária de Coimbra, Instituto Politécnico de Coimbra, and Coordinator of the BSc degree course in Biotechnology. Collaborates with different higher education institutions. He is an Editor, makes part of editorial boards, and is a reviewer in different scientific journals. He takes part in different R&D projects and has published several articles and books in the field of macroalgae as biofertilizers and biostimulants.
