Ana Sofia Fajardo
Ana S. Fajardo, Assistant Researcher at i2A – Polytechnic University of Coimbra, holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Coimbra and has been awarded a European Ph.D. label in Advanced Oxidation Processes. She has international and multidisciplinary experience in Environmental Engineering and Materials Science, having worked with research groups in Portugal, Brazil, the USA, and France. Her research focuses on the sustainable management of the water-energy nexus from an applied science perspective, aiming to develop electrochemical processes to address environmental challenges. Dr. Fajardo's work also includes innovative approaches to waste valorization, converting waste into valuable resources. She has converted nitrate into ammonia (added-value product) and repurposed metallic industry waste into electrodes. Her research in this area aims to reduce waste disposal issues and promote circular economy principles. Through her efforts, Dr. Fajardo has demonstrated the potential of integrating waste valorization with wastewater/drinking water treatment for more sustainable practices.
