Helena Maria Vala Correia
Helena Maria Vala Correia (author name Vala H) completed Aggregation Proofs in Veterinary Sciences, Sanity at the University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro in 2019/01/25, PhD in Veterinary Sciences in and Degree in Veterinary Medicine in 1993 from the same university.
She works as a Coordinating Professor with Aggregation at the Escola Agrária de Viseu (ESAV) of the Instituto Politécnico de Viseu (IPV) and as Anatomopathologist at the Laboratory of Veterinary Pathological Anatomy of the same School, which operates under her responsibility.
It is listed on her CV the participation in several research projects (28) and the dissemination of results through publications in various formats, including book chapters (11) and scientific articles in international ISI journals (56), as well as communications at national (194) and international scientific events (241).
Regarding the scientific component, it is also noteworthy that she was a member of scientific committees at 32 technical-scientific events and received 17 awards for the best presentation of a communication at a scientific event.
In the exercise of her activity, she held several management positions that included Department Director, Vice-Presidency of the Board of Directors, Presidency of the Scientific Council, Presidency of the Assembly of Representatives and Presidency of the Evaluation and Quality Committee of ESAV, having also been a member of the Pedagogical Council of ESAV, the Academic Council and the General Council of IPV.
Currently holds the position of Vice-President of the Instituto Politécnico de Viseu during the four-year period 2021-2025.
Served on the board direction in a scientific society, the Portuguese Society of Animal Pathology, as Vice-President for two terms, followed by President for two additional terms (2011 to 2015) and now holds the position of member of the Supervisory Board of the Portuguese Society of Veterinary Sciences for the 2021 to 2025 term.
The research work developed, and the teaching focused on Veterinary Science cover study methodology dedicated to the conservation of animal health, study of zoonoses with impact on public and environmental health, related areas of Agrarian Sciences, from a global and multidisciplinary perspective. More specifically, the areas of intervention include the development of assertive and early diagnosis of diseases, namely serology, histopathology, immunohistochemistry, among others, as well as proposals for prophylactic measures. The methodologies and knowledge developed have been at the service of the community, through diagnostic services and applied research.
