Hélia Sofia Duarte Canas Marchante
Hélia is a biologist with a Ph.D. in Biology/Ecology from the University of Coimbra, in collaboration with the University of Cape Town (South Africa). She has been a faculty member at the Agrarian School of the Polytechnic Institute of Coimbra since 1997, primarily teaching Biology, Botany, Dendrology, Invasive Species Management, and Conservation Biology. She is also a researcher at the Functional Ecology Center, where she participates in and coordinates projects on invasive plants, covering topics such as impact assessment, management of invaded areas, and biological control, among others. She is the author of numerous publications, including scientific articles, popular science pieces, book chapters, and books. Additionally, she is involved in diverse activities related to consulting, science communication, environmental awareness, and citizen science projects, all focused on the theme of invasive plants.
