Hélder Viana
Helder Viana holds a pre-Bologna Bachelor's degree in Forestry Engineering from the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro, completed in 2000. He obtained a Master's degree in Forest Resource Engineering in 2006 and a European Ph.D. in Agronomic and Forestry Sciences in 2012.
He is an Adjunct Professor at the Higher School of Agrarian Studies of the Polytechnic Institute of Viseu, where he has been teaching Silviculture and Forest Management since 2002. He has served as Director of the Department of Ecology and Sustainable Agriculture, Director of the Bachelor's degree in Agricultural Engineering - Forest Variant, Director of the Bachelor's degree in Forestry, and Director of the Bachelor's degree in Ecology and Landscaping. He was also President of the Assembly of Representatives of ESAV. Currently, he is the Coordinator of the Professional Higher Technical Course in Civil Protection and serves as President of ESAV.
He is a researcher at the Center for Studies on Natural Resources, Environment, and Society (CERNAS), with research topics including biomass and carbon mapping, forest inventory and modeling, silviculture, and biodiversity. He participates in various national and international projects and is the author and co-author of over 100 publications in international and national scientific journals, book chapters, and numerous communications at specialized conferences. Additionally, he serves as a reviewer for various scientific journals in his field of expertise.
